Dear 2016

I feel like this is a really good post to end RRR on.

-------------------------

At the tail end of 2014, I wrote a letter to my future self entitled “Dear 2015.”

It was an interesting letter, full of interesting assumptions that seem weird to me now. I don’t know. I think I changed a lot this year. (I change a lot every single year.)

Here’s the letter:

Dear 2015,

In case you weren't sure, 2014 was a good year for me. It was. I'm absolutely certainly positive it was.

Here's a list of things that made it awesome:

-I went to Korea.
-I started a new book and finished the first draft.
-I got baptized.
-I blogged.
-I discovered YouTube.
-I made videos.
-I worked at the Snack Shack and made money.
-I started a club.

It was pretty awesome.

Now I'm hoping you can top that list. Each year, I want you, Rachel/Rcubed, to do something more magnificent, something better, something awesomer. I want you to shoot for the stars and to have no regrets.

The Main Thing I'd like you to do in 2015 is:
-Finish your edits by March.
-Query.
-GET AN AGENT.

That's all I want you to do. Also, a blog revamping, a YouTube channel, a Twitter, and a driver's license (you'll be turning 16, after all) might also be in order. Also, a job. (A real one. Try the Habit.) But first--AGENT. (Also, try not to crash into any cars.)

Dear Rcubed of 2015, please don't do anything crazy. Or stupid. You do have a tendency to lean that way, you know.

Also, please do well on your SAT. You may be taking the SAT in 2016 (I have no idea), but I hope you do okay on it. And do morning Elite! Not afternoon! All your friends will be in morning Elite! Okay?

Also, PRACTICE. TENNIS. I don't care if you don't feel like it, practice. You will be team captain of varsity!

You will!

And read. Read your study Bible. I just started Jeremiah; try to finish it, okay? Also, it'd be wonderful if you finally finish Psalms.

Stay with God.

Last but not least...don't drink or do drugs (not that I think you're going to) and TELL ME HOW PITCH PERFECT 2 was.  (I didn't think the trailer was very magnetic.) And Avengers 2. And Kingsman. And Girl Meets World Season 2. How did Pinocchio end?! How did Keeper of the Lost Cities end?!

Anyway...I hope you're doing well. Say hi to yourself for me.

Love,
2014.

Now that we have read through all my expectations for 2015, here’s my response:

Dear 2015,
Hello, child-me. How ya doin’?
In case you weren't sure, 2014 was a good year for me. That’s good! I kind of still remember it! It was. I'm absolutely certainly positive it was. (Okay, obviously I needed to work on my repetitive adverbs/adjectives.)

Wow! 2014 was a pretty productive year!

Now I'm hoping you can top that list. Each year, I want you, Rachel/Rcubed, to do something more magnificent, something better, something awesomer. I want you to shoot for the stars and to have no regrets.

There’s my idealism speaking. Lol.

The Main Thing I'd like you to do in 2015 is:
-Finish your edits by March.
-Query.
-GET AN AGENT.

HAHAHA. HAHA. HAHA. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
I REALLY HAD NO IDEA HOW LIFE WORKS.
No idea.
That's all I want you to do. That’s “all” you wanted me to do. Wow, Rachel. Wowowowowow. Also, a blog revamping I’m sure I can manage that (wink wink), a YouTube channel yup, a Twitter still working on it, and a driver's license January 5th, 2016, is the date! (you'll be turning 16, after all) might also be in order. Also, a job. (A real one. Try the Habit.) Ever heard of full-time daughter-sister-student-student-student-writer-blogger-YouTuber? But first--AGENT. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. (Also, try not to crash into any cars.) Haven’t yet...but I almost did!

Dear Rcubed of 2015, please don't do anything crazy. Or stupid. You do have a tendency to lean that way, you know. I know. I only accidentally almost crashed into people. But nothing ginormously disastrous.

Also, please do well on your SAT. You may be taking the SAT in 2016 (I have no idea), but I hope you do okay on it. And do morning Elite! Not afternoon! All your friends will be in morning Elite! Okay? Nope. Tennis camp. But that’s all right--all my friends did afternoon Elite. And I did do well on the SAT! Thanks for inquiring!

Also, PRACTICE. TENNIS. I don't care if you don't feel like it, practice. You will be team captain of varsity!

You will!
Hahahahahaha, nope.

And read. Read your study Bible. I just started Jeremiah; try to finish it, okay? Also, it'd be wonderful if you finally finish Psalms. I almost finished Psalms, but then I got sidetracked by the book of John.

Stay with God. Still chillin’ with my Main Home Slice.

Last but not least...don't drink or do drugs (not that I think you're going to) LOL WHO DO YOU THINK I AM??? and TELL ME HOW PITCH PERFECT 2 was. It was pretty good! You’d like it! (I didn't think the trailer was very magnetic.) And Avengers 2. That was good too! And Kingsman. I don’t know--it was rated R, so Dad wouldn’t let me watch it. And Girl Meets World Season 2. IT’S NOT OVER, BUT LUCAYA LUCAYA LUCAYA LUCAYA. How did Pinocchio end?! The guy and the girl get together. How did Keeper of the Lost Cities end?! IT HASN’T YET!!!!! BUT KEEFE! KEEFE! KEEFE!!!!

Anyway...I hope you're doing well. Say hi to yourself for me.
Hello, it’s me.

Love,
2014.

And here’s my letter to 2016.

Dear 2016,

Wow. I just came off the tail end of 2015, and I feel like I just came off a roller coaster that goes up and down and all around at some crazy absurd speed.
2015 was an okay year. It had more ups and downs than 2013 and 2014 did, definitely. People changed, I changed, stuff happened. But you have an entire calendar on which to look back. I hope you’ll remember the major things that happened, but here’s a quick list of what happened--
  1. Lena got sick.
  2. I made a YouTube channel.
  3. I started planning Silver Mess.
  4. I got my permit in June.
  5. I had countless mental breakdowns over school, life, etc.
  6. I stopped writing in March.
  7. I started on-off writing again in September, October, and November. As of right now, I’m focusing on schoolwork and other things.
  8. I turned sixteen.
  9. I eagerly followed the adventures of Riley and Maya on Girl Meets World.
  10. I started watching The Willis Family on TLC.
  11. I started thinking more and more about college. Right now, it’s a narrow race among Wheaton and the UC schools (if I can get into any of them, haha).
  12. My grades stink, and I hate junior year.
  13. Paris, San Bernadino, etc., etc., etc.
  14. Tori Kelly, Alessia Cara, Adele, Sabrina Carpenter, etc., etc., etc.
  15. June 26th.

Basically.
There’s a lot of stuff that’s going to go down in 2016, and to be honest, I’m scared, but BRING IT ON.
I’ve got so many questions.
  1. Who becomes President of the United States? We all know it won’t be Trump. I’m hoping it’ll be Rubio, but I don’t like Clinton. Hopefully in 2016 I’ll be a little more involved with politics. I’ll only be seventeen by the time elections roll around, so I won’t be able to vote, but hopefully I’ll be more aware of what’s happening. THANK YOU JESUS FOR THE TWO TERM LIMIT. (And also George Washington, for setting that precedent.)
  2. How’d you do on your AP tests? Did you end up taking your Bio AP test? Lang? APUSH?
  3. ARE YOUR GRADES GOOD ENOUGH TO GET INTO A UC COLLEGE? Did God have grace on you? Or are you going to end up going somewhere else?
  4. HOW IS CHICAGO? You’re going there in March; am I correct? DO YOU LIKE IT?? DO YOU? DO YOU? DO YOU?
  5. How is your walk with God doing? What have you been reading lately?
  6. How is Silver Mess doing? And your YouTube channel?
  7. Are you finally a good driver? Do you have your own car now? Have you crashed into anything? PLEASE DON’T HAVE. PLEASE DON’T HAVE.
  8. How were the Rio Olympics?
  9. What do you want to be when you grow up now? Are you still thinking about being an English major?
  10. How’s the fam?

I have a lot of questions that will only be answered in time, and 2016 is shaping up to be an interesting year. I have a feeling that there will be a lot more plot twists that God will throw at us, but I’m assured that He is still in control.
It’s crazy to think how you’re growing up. You’re thinking more about the future. You never thought you’d get to this point in your life, but you are. You’re almost an adult. You’re SEVENTEEN.
*plays alessia cara’s “seventeen” in the background*
Dang.
I would give you a list of goals to accomplish by the end of 2016, but I did that at the end of 2014 for 2015, and see how well that panned out. Really, I’d just like you to:
  • Grow in your relationships with other people. Learn how to truly care for a person, multiple people. Think about them.
  • Grow your artistic skills and Silver Mess. I honestly think you’re onto something here (if it doesn’t work out, please don’t pan me as your “naive and clueless other self,” because younger versions of yourself have legitimate opinions as well as you do), and I’m excited to see what the future holds for it.
  • Grow your mind. You can do anything with God’s help, including conquering the incorrigible AP Biology. You may stink at science, but I’m sure if you figure it out, you can defeat it.
  • Grow your relationship with God, and learn humility. Read more theology books. Read the Bible more. Listen to more sermons. Listen to Christ and Pop Culture podcasts.
  • Work hard. Learn time efficiency. End high school on a good note. When you’re reading this again, you’ll be in senior year. Wow. You’ll be a senior.

Dang.
Have an incredibly good, incredibly productive, incredibly fruitful 2016, Rachel. I’m excited to see what happens next.

Love,
Yourself from 2015.

This Christmas

Dear Jesus-

Even though nobody knows exactly when you were born, I'm so glad we celebrate your birth into this world. Without you taking on human flesh, we'd basically be nowhere. Like this blogosphere that I live in? Nowhere. No point. We'd probably all be reminiscing about something pointless, which is what I do ninety-nine percent of the time anyway.

But even though sometimes I'm discontent with my life, and this year's Christmas doesn't exactly feel like how I think Christmas should feel, I'm still grateful. I'm grateful that You gave my family the means to donate to other charities, I'm grateful that You have given me the opportunity to write this blog, I'm grateful for what You have in store for me--the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Love, Rachel

p.s. merry Christmas!!!!!1!!!!!!11111!!!!!!1!!!!1!!!!1!11!!

Random Vibes

I rearranged my room, organized most of my blog tour, and am currently procrastinating doing homework! (Although I'm on break, I still need to study. Sigh...)

But on the other hand, I uploaded some pictures from these past couple of weeks, so I thought I'd share them with you! (Also...I have a sneak peek of what Silver Mess is going to look like!)

I've been driving A LOT lately, guys. And I mean A LOT. Yesterday (the first day of break), I drove to and from Target, to and from Yogurtland, and to and from the library. Today, I drove to church (on the freeway with a keyboard in the backseat), and I'm definitely planning on doing more driving in the days until my driving test (January 5th)!

I'M SO EXCITED, GUYS.

Recently, my newspaper teacher organized a party for the newspaper/yearbook staffs. We went to this art place, where we were supposed to draw a green wreath against a white background.

I'm not a conventional person, so I chose to do a white wreath against a blue background. Alas...that was not the way it turned out.

In case you're wondering why on earth my painting looks supremely Jewish (Star of David, the blue), it's because of this:

I originally painted a regular five-pointed star, but I didn't plan it out very well, so the top ended up pointing down. Then one of the other guys was like, "Hey, that's a Satanic star!"

Well, obviously I can't have my star be a Satanic one, and the fact that he said that would have been irking me for the rest of the painting's existence, so I turned it into a Star of David, only now it looks bad--not even because it looks Jewish, but because my painting is just plain ol' BAD.

I was just about to destroy that guy's painting.

Aaaaand...here's a picture of the header and top of my website:

I'm so excited, guys! This is gonna be GOOOOOOOD!

(AND I JUST BOUGHT THE STUFF FOR THE GIVEAWAY!!)
